STEVE MONK is a photographer whose images of both natural and human-created surroundings call attention to the beauty and significance of the environment and our inherent relationship to it. He works with groups whose values are in alignment with defending natural systems and restoring sustainable practices. In 2014 his photographs appeared in Canadian Dimension Magazine, The Green Gazette, Briarpatch Magazine and The Tyee.

Steve’s exploration of nature through the lens began in Canada’s Arctic 35 years ago. His connection to nature continues, now at a deeper level. “It is essential for me to celebrate and draw awareness to the ecosystems that sustain us and are currently threatened. Our own well-being is dependent upon our conscious interconnection with all life.”

In Steve’s words, architecture is also a landscape, drawing on the aesthetics of human-created shape and form.

ContemplativeMonk

Miksang is Tibetan for "seeing with the good eye", where "good" means that our mind is relaxed and not preoccupied. It is a contemplative exploration that is totally perception-based (non-conceptual), bringing oneself back to the simple aspect of form. It allows for direct, in-the-moment experiences, by letting go of thought and to simply receive the world around us. Clarity of expression through images is a result.
